-a- Title is formerly known as the NWA Tri-State North American Championship, renamed in August of 1979.

-b- Title returned to George.

-c- JYD loses a "loser-leaves-town" match and is out for 90 days. He returns as the masked "Stagger Lee" and wins the title. It is vacated in February 1983 after JYD returns without the mask.

-d- Defeated Mr. Olympia in the finals of a tournament final to win the vacant title.

-e- Title returned to Reed after a title victory by Magnum T.A. is reversed.

-f- Belt is held-up after a match against Jake Roberts January 31, 1986 in Houston, TX.

-g- Defeated Dick Slater in a rematch to win the title.

-h- Defeated Buzz Sawyer after Slater is tricked into signing a contract, requiring Sawyer to defend the belt against Duggan. Title is abandoned in May 1986 with the relaunch of the promotion as the UWF.
