-b- Defeated Big Van Vader for the vacant belt. Held-up after a May 27, 1988 match against Riki Choshu ends in a no-contest.

-c- Defeated Choshu in a rematch. Vacated on April 5, 1989.

-d- Defeated Shin'ya Hashimoto in the finals of an 8-man, one night only tournament for the vacant title.

-e- Vacated on September 21, 1998 after Chono suffers a severe neck injury.

-f- Defeated Yuji Nagata for the vacant belt.

-g- Vacated on October 9, 2000 after a losing a non-title match to Toshiaki Kawada.

-h- Defeated Kawada in the finals of a tournament to regain the vacant belt.

-i- Vacated in December 2001 after Fujita is unable to defend the belt due to injury.

-j- Defeated Yuji Nagata in the finals of a tournament for the vacant belt.

-k- Also holds the NWF World Heavyweight Title.

-l- Defeated Yoshihiro Takayama, who is the NWF World Heavyweight Champion, to unify the NWF title into the IWGP title. Vacated in January 2004 due to injury.

-m- Defeated Genichiro Tenryu in the finals of a tournament to win the vacant title.

-n- Vacated in May 2004 when Sapp leaves the country.

-o- Defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi with in the vacant belt.

-p- Kojima is also the All-Japan Triple Crown Champion at the time of this title change.

-q- Stripped on July 15, 2006 when Lesnar does not return to Japan to defend due to a contractual problem.

-r- Defeated Giant Bernard in the finals of a tournament to win the vacant belt.
